How I work

Every translation goes through six stages. Software handles the repetitive work; I make the decisions.

  1. 1PreparationI review the file and assess the volume. Then I build a glossary of names, defined terms and your company’s terminology.
  2. 2Translation memoryIf I have translated for you before, I build on those translations, so the same sentences and terms are rendered the same way.
  3. 3CAT toolI translate in professional CAT software, so tables, numbering and formatting stay exactly as in the original.
  4. 4TranslationI translate every sentence myself, or check and correct the machine suggestion. In legal texts I make sure each term refers to the same legal concept as in the original.
  5. 5ReviewAfter a break, I reread the whole translation against the original to make sure nothing is missing and the text reads naturally.
  6. 6Final checkI check numbers, dates, amounts, names and references, both with software and by eye. Only then does the translation go to you.

Notarial transactions with foreign clients

The task
A foreign buyer is acquiring property in Lithuania but does not speak Lithuanian, and the contract has to be signed before a notary.
What I did
The notary’s office sends me the draft in advance so I can go through it. At the signing I interpret the contract into English, and the client’s questions and the notary’s explanations both ways. When needed, I also help the client confirm with the notary in advance which documents are required.
The result
I have worked with this Vilnius notary’s office for years and have interpreted at many other notaries too. This summer alone brought several transactions, and the autumn a substitute power of attorney for an international medical technology company.

University documents under a public contract

The task
A translation agency was bidding in a public tender held by a university of applied sciences and needed a translator it could trust with all of that client’s work.
What I did
I supplied my rates for the agency’s bid. I now translate the institution’s regulations, procedures and study programmes from Lithuanian into English, aligning terms with its official English names and earlier translations so that all documents stay consistent.
The result
The agency won the tender and entrusted all of that client’s work to me.

Medical device instructions for use and on-screen text

The task
An international dental equipment manufacturer updates its instructions for use and device screen texts in several European languages at once.
What I did
I produce the Lithuanian versions in Trados using the manufacturer’s translation memories and termbase, and shorten on-screen labels to fit strict character limits while keeping them clear.
The result
I resolve quality check comments the same day, often within the hour. I translate for this manufacturer on an ongoing basis.

Certification and notarisation

Lithuania has no sworn translators: a translation is certified by the translator’s signature. If an authority requires it, a notary attests that my signature is genuine, and a document for use abroad may also need an apostille. We agree which certification you need before I start. Notary fees are not included in the translation price.

About me

I am a Vilnius-based lawyer and English–⁠Lithuanian translator with a master’s degree in law from Vilnius University, translating professionally since 2016. I work with law firms, companies and more than 15 translation agencies in Lithuania and abroad. Most of my work is on documents where mistakes are costly: contracts, court documents, and medical and financial texts.

How much does a translation cost?
Prices are per page: one page is 1,700 characters without spaces. Private clients pay from €9 per page incl. VAT, companies from €10 excl. VAT, and legal documents with legal review from €14 excl. VAT (private clients from €17 incl. VAT). Interpreting costs €60 per hour incl. VAT: the first hour is charged in full, then €30 for each half-hour started. The minimum order is €15 incl. VAT. The calculator gives a guide; I confirm the final price once I see the file, as it depends on the task, the file format and any repeated text.
How quickly can you translate?
I translate more than 5,000 words a day, weekends included. A document of a few pages is usually ready within 1–⁠2 working days. If you need it the same working day, a 50% urgency surcharge applies. Before I start, I confirm in my quote when the translation will be ready.
Will the translation be certified? Do I need a notary?
I sign the translation as the translator (Lithuania has no sworn translators). If an authority requires it, a notary attests that my signature is genuine, and a document for use abroad may also need an apostille. I will tell you in advance what your case is likely to need, but it is worth confirming the requirements with the authority that will receive the document. If needed, I will arrange the notarisation. Notary fees are not included in the translation price.
Are you a sworn translator?
Lithuania has no system of sworn translators, so no translator here holds that status. A translation is certified by the translator’s signature and, where an authority requires it, by a notary who attests that signature. If a foreign authority asks for a sworn translator from its own country, check this in advance – I will help you work out what you need.
How do I send my documents?
Through the request form on this page or by email. Word, PDF, Excel and PowerPoint files work, as does a clear photo or scan of the document. Tell me what the translation is for (a court, a notary, another authority, or for publication) and when you need it.
Are my documents safe?
I treat all documents as confidential. I do not upload them to services that use submitted content to train their models, and documents containing personal data go only into tools whose providers have a data processing agreement with me. If your company requires it, we can sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and a data processing agreement (DPA). I keep documents for up to 12 months. See the privacy policy for details.
Do you use machine translation and AI?
Yes, as aids: translation memories, termbases, machine translation and AI tools. They speed up the work and keep terminology consistent, but I check and edit every sentence myself and remain responsible for the result. If you would rather I did not use machine translation or AI on your document, let me know and I will work without them.
What is a legal review?
It is a check that the legal terms and concepts in the translation mean the same as in the original, and that references to legislation, dates, amounts and party names match. It helps avoid errors that can be costly in a contract or a court document. A legal review is not legal advice.
How and when do I pay?
Companies pay within 14 days of delivery, against a VAT invoice. I may ask private clients to pay in advance; in that case I start once the payment arrives.
Which languages do you translate?
I translate English into Lithuanian and Lithuanian into English myself. Other languages, such as German, Polish, Russian, Latvian, French or the Scandinavian languages, are translated by vetted partners, while I coordinate the project and remain responsible for the result.
Do you work with translation agencies?
Yes, for ten years now. Agencies get separate terms, and I work in their CAT tools (Trados, memoQ, Phrase). Get in touch and I will send you my agency rates.
